Lots of news for this summer! First, I retired from my day job at the Greater Victoria School District after 13 years and can now concentrate solely on Eagle Creek soaps. I loved my job and the wonderful people I worked with but the time had come for me to put more focus into my soap making and pursuing retirement dreams of paddle boarding, cycling, kayaking . . . well, you get the picture.
I decided to spend more time with my family as well, so I’ve opted out of the Farmer’s Markets this year. Rather, I’m focusing all my efforts on getting my soaps into more shops. In June, I got my soaps into all six of the Whole Foods Markets BC stores. Previously I was in only the new Victoria Uptown Centre Market, and now both the Burnaby and Victoria stores currently carry the full line, while Park Royal, Cambie, Robson, and Kitsilano carry six of the best sellers: Man Up, Lemony Lavender, Oatmeal, Milk & Honey, Bodacious Bordeaux, Under the Sea and Lemongrass Lizzie.
You can also now find Eagle Creek Natural Soaps at the Royal BC Museum Gift Shop. It’s packaged a little differently but they have displayed the soaps alongside some beautiful silk and felted scarves. The soap design and the scarves are a lovely match.
We’ve also added something specifically for those folks who really don’t want anything in their soaps besides the good oils. Plain Jane has no added colour and no scent.
It might be too early for you to start thinking about Christmas and all that entails, however, soap makers have to think way far ahead. Especially me, because as you know, I like my soaps to age before you get them. Makes for a harder bar which in turn lasts longer making for a much better deal for you, my treasured customers!
This one is of course seasonal and smells just like it’s name, all pepperminty like. You’ll be able to get some from Invisible Sun Arts in Cowichan Bay, BC and The Local General Store in Victoria, BC. I’ll also have some with me at both Christmas Craft Shows I’m in this year: Gifts for Myself and Others at the Da Vinci Centre, Nov 19 & 20; and Last Chance Christmas Market at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney on Dec 10 and 11.
Late Summer 2015
It smells heavenly with Sandalwood and Patchouli and it looks great too don’t you think?
By the way, just in case you think I’m using melt and pour kits for these Artist Series soaps, I’m not. They are created using the cold process method and contain the same great natural ingredients as all my soaps. So even though you may be tempted to leave them on display, go ahead and use them up. I promise to make more.
Under the Sea
We’ve got a brand new, smash hit with “Under the Sea”. The first batch sold out in only 2 markets so I’ve been busy making lots more. Scented with Lime, Lemongrass, and Clary Sage Essential oils and swirled with lovely blues and greens – just like an “Octopus’ Garden in the Shade”.
And in case I haven’t mentioned it before, don’t forget to add a homemade wooden soap dish to your wish list. This cannot be overstated . . . NATURAL SOAPS CANNOT SPEND THEIR LIVES IN A SOGGY SOAP DISH . . . protect your investment and get an all natural “Skeeper” to allow your beautiful soaps to drain.
